High-order algorithms for solving eigenproblems over discrete surfaces

چکیده
The eigenvalue problem of the Laplace-Beltrami operators on curved surfaces plays an essential role in the convergence analysis of the numerical simulations of some important geometric partial differential equations which involve this operator. In this note we shall combine the local tangential lifting (LTL) method with the configuration equation to develop a new effective and convergent algorithm to solve the eigenvalue problems of the Laplace-Beltrami operators acting on functions over discrete surfaces. The convergence rates of our algorithms of discrete Laplace-Beltrami operators over surfaces is O(r), n ≥ 1, where r represents the size of the mesh of discretization of the surface. The problem of high-order accuracies will also be discussed and used to compute geometric invariants of the underlying surfaces. Some convergence tests and eigenvalue computations on the sphere, tori and a dumbbell are presented.

The comparison of two high-order semi-discrete central schemes for solving hyperbolic conservation laws
This work presents two high-order, semi-discrete, central-upwind schemes for computing approximate solutions of 1D systems of conservation laws. We propose a central weighted essentially non-oscillatory (CWENO) reconstruction, also we apply a fourth-order reconstruction proposed by Peer et al., and afterwards, we combine these reconstructions with a semi-discrete central-upwind numerical flux ...
متن کاملQuadratic Eigenproblems Are No Problem
High-dimensional eigenproblems often arise in the solution of scientiic problems involving stability or wave modeling. In this article we present results for a quadratic eigenproblem that we encountered in solving an acoustics problem, speciically in modeling the propagation of waves in a room in which one wall was constructed of sound-absorbing material. EEcient algorithms are known for the st...
متن کاملA Note on Newbery’s Algorithm for Discrete Least-squares Approximation by Trigonometric Polynomials
Recently fast, efficient and reliable algorithms for discrete least-squares approximation of a real-valued function given at arbitrary distinct nodes in [0, 2π) by trigonometric polynomials were presented in different papers. These algorithms are based on schemes for the solution of inverse unitary eigenproblems and require only O(mn) arithmetic operations as compared to O(mn) operations needed...
متن کاملSolving Traveling Salesman Problem based on Biogeography-based Optimization and Edge Assembly Cross-over
Biogeography-Based Optimization (BBO) algorithm has recently been of great interest to researchers for simplicity of implementation, efficiency, and the low number of parameters. The BBO Algorithm in optimization problems is one of the new algorithms which have been developed based on the biogeography concept. This algorithm uses the idea of animal migration to find suitable habitats for solvin...
متن کاملExact Implementation of Multiple Initial Conditions in the DQ Solution of Higher-Order ODEs
The differential quadrature method (DQM) is one of the most elegant and useful approximate methods for solving initial and/or boundary value problems. It is easy to use and also straightforward to implement. However, the conventional DQM is well-known to have some difficulty in implementing multiple initial and/or boundary conditions at a given discrete point. To overcome this difficulty, this ...
